Hot air ballooning is the oldest successful flight project of humanity
dating back to the invention of Montgolfier Brothers in 1783. A balloon
operates through the basic principles of hot air and gravity. As the air
inside the balloon is heated, the air rises which simply moves the
balloon up. Conversely, as the air cools, the balloon descends. To make
the balloon rise first an inflator fills it with air and then the air is
heated.
A hot air balloon has 3 major parts, the envelope (the mostly seen “balloon” part), the basket (where the passengers ride) and the burner (which heats the air with a huge flame). Steering a balloon is mostly not possible. The balloon moves with the wind. The only thing the pilot does is moving the balloon up or down to catch different wind speeds or directions. Ballooning in Turkey is very popular in Cappadocia. Cappadocia region is a huge region which can be completely seen only from airview. Thus visiting Cappadocia without a balloon ride is a huge loss. There are numerous balloon operators in the Cappadocia region. Prices range from 160-230 EUR. Due to strict regulations of the Ministry of Tourism, only licensed pilots and tours can operate in the business. All pilots are licensed from the Turkish Civil Aviation. Find an Hotel in Cappadocia at Thomas Cook. The flights are mostly done early in the morning. There are basically two reasons for this. First, tecnically, lifting the balloon is much easier in cooler weather. Second, the beauty of Cappadocia with the sunrise is much more stunning. The flight usually takes 3-4 hours and a balloon can carry 4-8 persons depending on the size of the balloon. The height of the flight is restricted to 2000 feets (about 500 meters).
