July and August, the hottest months of the year, are the most popular months for exploring Turkey's southwest shores by the Blue Cruise. The yachts used used for the Blue Cruise are mainly the local fishing boats known as gulet, traditional craft which have evolved over the centuries to suit the climate perfectly. They have a broad spacious deck which allows plenty of room for the passengers to stretch out and sunbathe, watch the magnificent scenery, eat and drink around the large table or just chat. Since it's very warm from May to October you have the chance to sleep outside, under the stars, instead of using your cabinet. Blue Cruise is a real opportunity to combine sun, sea, history and the views of the scenery. You can either relax in your bathing suit all day long, enjoy the good food and the sun or you can experience more exciting activities like diving, snorkelling, canoeing or simply fishing. One of the most enjoyable activities on a Blue Cruise is cooking fish which you have caught yourself. Most popular routes of Blue Cruise There are many combinations available for a perfect blue cruise experience. Almost all cruises take off from Bodrum, Marmaris or Fethiye. The voyage lasts mostly for a week but there are also shorter tours for 2-3 nights and longer ones for 10-14 nights. A region stretching from Bodrum to Olympos is the ideal landscape for Blue Cruise in Turkey. Most popular option for the duration is a one week trip. Be sure to choose a very comfortable and preferably a big yacht for longer tours. Tours for 3-4 nights will be a bit of a rush so I suggest the "one week" option. On the other hand most popular destinations are the Bodrum-Marmaris, Marmaris-Fethiye and Fethiye-Olympos destinations. Especially Fethiye-Olympos route covers many historical and natural wonders on its way. There are also routes that return back like Bodrum-Bodrum route. With the Blue Cruise, you can visit most of the historical places because almost all worth to visit historical cities and natural beauties are located close to the shore in south west Turkey. What is a Gulet (or Goulette)? Traditional Turkish yachts are also called as "Gulet". A gulet is a wooden handmade motor sailing yacht built for cruising the coasts of the calm and warm waters of southwest Turkey. Gulets are built to center life on deck during the charter. Accommodations from 6 to 16 persons in seperate double cabins, some with en suite toilet/shower is available. They may not all be equipped to sail, but most of them have a main sail to use when the wind is suitable. How to charter a gulet? There are basically two ways for a Blue Cruise, either you, with a group of friends (mostly up to 16 people), rent an entire yacht privately or you can book just a cabin on a Blue Cruise. Either way, you will be provided a captain and a cook (all included in price). Some tour operators rent yachts to customers who own a valid captain license. |
