Icmeler
Icmeler is an alternative holiday resort only 8 km. to Marmaris. Although not as big as Marmaris, Icmeler is as popular as Marmaris among tourists visiting Turkey. Icmeler has a single mid-sized bay covered by pine forests on all sides. You can reach Icmeler by minibus or alternatively by boat from Marmaris (only 10 mimutes by minibus and half an hour by boat).
Icmeler village (the actual village-not the hotels and pensions that are located on the coast) is about a kilometer inside from the shore. Don't forget to visit the small canyon that is behind Icmeler that goes into the forest. You can also hike to the mountains surrounding the Icmeler region and see the magnificent view of the Icmeler bay. Also, rent a small canoe on the beach and visit the goat island across located just out of the Icmeler bay.
Icmeler has a variety of accomodation facilities for tourists. The town possesses almost all kinds of facilities, from five star hotels to reasonable aparts designed for families. Nightlife of Icmeler is also almost as assorted as Marmaris. Just 6 km to Icmeler is Turunc, another popular but small touristic village in the Marmaris Region.
