Turkey Travel Guide > Tips > Thermal Therapy Springs in Turkey

A thermal spring is a spring that is produced by the emergence of geothermally heated underground water from the earth's crust.  There are thermal springs all over Turkey but only about 20 thermal springs have accommodation facilities available.  Because Turkey is located on top of a major geothermal belt, it is among the top seven countries in the world for quality and quantity of thermal springs with over 1000 with temperatures ranging from 37șC to 105șC.

Most thermal springs of Turkey are in the Marmara and Aegean regions and because of their proximity to popular travel destinations such as Istanbul, Izmir, Pamukkale and Marmaris, public transport is rather easy.  Many of Turkey’s historical places have developed because of their proximity to thermal springs, like the ancient city of Hieropolis which was built near the rich mineral springs of Pamukkale and the Lydian city of Kaunos whose people took baths in the rich mineral mud of Dalyan Delta.

You can find detailed information about many thermal springs, spa centers and hot baths  of Turkey at Thermal Therapy Springs of Turkey Blog.
